"The regularness of life is too hard for me or something"

Real life and tv are not the same. We collectively seem to have decided that even though the events and scenarios in tv are not indicative of real life, that in some way there is some element of real life in tv. Tv is not viewed as wholly seperate, and inherently removed, but rather that in some way it documents our experiences or feelings. I guess what's so fascinating about this to me is there is a difference between the two which often goes unaddressed. Its not that what happens in tv is so much different, but rather the overwhelming atmosphere of the real world which alters it. for example, when someone kills someone in the godfather, the brutality of the act is not changed, but there is a consonance between the fictional world created and the actions occuring within it. In otherworks like the sopranos or twin peaks there is a dissonance between the actions and the world, as though these things are not meant to be occuring, yet they are. I think this is where the media fails us. There is no larger dissonance or consonance with our actions and the world around us. It's not necessarily about meaning, but rather that there is no "right" course. By right I dont mean moral, but rather there is no action we can take that adheres to an understanding of the world that is any broader than ourselves. It's not that all decisions are unclear, rather that we can find no comfort in our mistakes or successes as working in harmony with anything else. There is no fictional understanding of the world which gives our actions coherence. I think the best word for this is uncertainty. While in fiction characters feel uncertain, there is no uncertainty which transcends the individuals and instead resides in the world. While in twin peaks the murders are horrifying and frigthening, the world is still coherent, it makes sense thematically in some regard. There is in some way a comfort in the horror of the fictional world, as it creates conflict as a certainty, whereas in the real world there is no thematic understanding which yields any sort of certainty or peace.
